"Among the hills, when you sit in the cool shade of the white poplars,
sharing the peace and serenity of distant fields and meadows-
then let your heart say in silence,
"God rests in reason."
언덕 위 흰 포플러 나무의 시원한 그늘에 누워,
먼 들판과 초원의 평화와 고요를 음미할때,
침묵 속에서 네 마음이 속삭이게 하라.
"신은 이성 가운데 휴식하신다."라고.
And when the storm comes, and the mighty wind shakes the forest,
and thunder and lightning proclaim the majesty of the sky,-
then let your heart say in awe,
"God moves in passion."
폭풍이 와 강한 바람이 숲을 흔들고, 천둥과 번개가 하늘의 권능을 선포할때,
두려움 가운데 네 마음이 말하게 하라.
"신은 열정 가운데 움직이신다." 라고.
And since you are a breath in God's sphere,
and a leaf in God's forest,
you too should rest in reason
and move in passion...."
너는 신의 창공 속의 숨결이며,
또한 그의 숲 속의 나뭇잎.
그러므로 너 또한 이성 가운데 쉬고,
열정으로 움직여야 하리라.
